Being your own boss gives you certain kinds of freedom.
First, you can now decide for yourself in which direction your work, and your life, go much more than under the constraint of a job.
Second, you can decide when you do your work and, of course, online you can work any hours you like. Especially, as your marketplace is global.
Third, you can decide where you want to work. Being online you could work at home, in an out-of-home office, at a cafe, outside. You’re also not limited by geographical area – you could be anywhere in the world, or even different places at different times. It really doesn’t matter where you are as long as you can get online.
Fourth, you can decide who you work with – online or off-line. Or work by yourself as long as you like. You can vary these, so that you may have got to the point of having local or outsourced staff but can still focus on the work you need to get done yourself, like product innovation.
Fifth, you can decide how you work, so that you organise your work place as you please. That would include how you keep your administration and computer arranged, to fit your circumstances and your business.
Sixth, and most important, you decide why you’re working. That is, what the long-term reasons, aims and purposes are for you and your business, as well as why you’re doing any particular task on any particular day. You’re the driver of what you’re doing.
Guess what, though. Everything is down to you – you get the freedom but also the responsibility.

You could be told how to make money from home by getting a job on the internet: such as, doing surveys, typing or whatever. The trouble with this is that it’s just another job. Of course, if you’re low on money, having a job is probably the quickest way to get an injection of cash on a regular basis.
However, there are advantages to having your own business online, using internet marketing.
- You have freedom to work where you want, how you want and when you want. You only need a room, a computer and an internet connection. You can organise yourself and your workplace any way you choose. No more times set by the job as to when to start, finish and have breaks – your time is your own.
- There is no boss dealing out the above restrictions to you, and worst of all, making judgements about how you’re doing according to others’ criteria. You set your own quality standards for your work. Your bottom line is for you: did you make any money, did you get any subscribers, did you get any visitors?
- There are no limits to possible earnings. A job, on or off-line, sets a limit as to what you can make – it’s called a wage. In your own internet business you set your own targets – big or small, to suit you.
- Best of all, you make your own decisions. You can think for yourself – most jobs don’t like this. That means you can create your own future. What happened in the past is no predictor of the future – you decide what that future will be for you.
These are massive advantages. Of course, you still have to work to make the business work. And you have to persist. But if you do, you’re also gaining new learning, an education: an “internet education”. That’s how to make money from home, by growing your own business and growing with it.
For part of what I mean by “growing with it” see this post on mindset.

I wrote here about the importance of mindset and thought I would add more information on the subject as I see it.
Mostly, I don’t agree there are any “secrets” or a “secret”.
There is no need for a mystical view about improving your life. Nor that it’s necessary to think of the supernatural. Rather, everything is nature. We’re in it.
What’s vitally important is your brain. It runs everything in the whole world of humankind.
In that brain – which is basically the same in everybody – is you.
However, there are two basic you’s.
There’s your conscious you – which is self conscious, where you do your conscious thinking, and where you are aware of yourself and the world around you.
But there’s another you – the unconscious you. This you runs your body, your dreams at night, your intuitions and feelings. Ever felt a rising up of powerful feelings and you’re not sure why, and you maybe had to consciously control them? Also, intuitions are thoughts at the speed of light – not heavy-footed like conscious thinking.
But your unconscious you will quite happily run on in its usual way. It has no purpose or direction.
Consciousness is all purpose and direction.
To achieve something you need both. However, your conscious you must take charge. If you wait for a flash of inspiration from the unconscious you’ll wait for ever. It just isn’t bothered. It has to be told to bother.
When it is told in no uncertain terms, it will come up with plenty of ideas and be on the lookout for related situations, people, etc. It will be alert for what it’s been told it needs to do.
The unconscious is far more powerful than the conscious you. But the conscious needs to lead the unconscious, like a light beam in the dark. And they need to work together.
In other words, it isn’t magic. It’s natural – it’s built into our biology. But like any tool, it has to be used, and used in the correct way.
This is partly what I meant by focus. Focus is the most important element in having your mind “set” like a compass.
You have everything you need between your ears

You’re working alone building your home based internet marketing business.
As you’ll be working alone with no external job motivations, you need to get interested, develop momentum, keep going no matter what happens, and adapt and change wherever necessary to reach your goal.
Here’s what you need for a positive mindset in order to keep going when you’re starting and growing your online business, from my personal experience and understanding.
1 – You have to think BIG!
It’s not much good focusing on small things, not when
you’re trying to make your business grow. So, think of
how to make it better, faster, more automated.
While you have to recognize what level you’re starting from,
at the same time, instead of being overawed by them, you
can observe what successful businesses are doing and
so know you can do that too.
2 – Grow your knowledge with your business
Explore, evaluate, find out about other businesses,
especially in similar areas and products, to see
what makes them successful. And even looking at less
successful businesses can be useful, in order to
avoid their mistakes. As you go up levels you can see
what works beyond where you are, at the next level.
3 – Decide to decide
Every day business owners have to make decisions. This
can be at a large planning level or about a small ad.
Either way, decisions taken positively, with the right
knowledge, show that problems can be overcome on a daily
basis.
4 – Do something and take action
Getting knowledge, taking decisions about what to do
and making plans are all to no avail unless you take
action. Those with a weak mindset can often put off this
step, going round in circles of procrastination. But
action gives impetus and moves the business on,
creating a virtuous circle.
5- Keep going
Never, ever give up. Most people give up at the first
problems they meet. But a positive mindset sees problems
as an opportunity to grow knowledge, get experience,
move the business on. Not stopping is a more
powerful trait than intelligence.
6 – Keep asking questions
There’s always more to learn, and that improved learning
means you keep moving forward. It’s not just asking
other people questions but also asking yourself – about
what sort of business you want, where you want it to go,
how you’ll get there. Questions are on-going, not just
one-off.
7 – Make sure you have success every day
The big successes don’t happen by themselves but are
the consequence of many, many smaller (preferably
daily) successes. So, build these in – after all,
what’s a small success to one person can be very
significant to someone else. Like, keeping your site online!:)
8 – Focus!
You’ll have heard of this, especially the need to focus, keep
your attention on one thing at a time. Those who fail, jump
about from one offer to another, from one problem to another.
But here’s something I never see mentioned: you do have to
shift your focus from tactic/small task to your big picture
regularly. This is to keep an on-going connection between
them – too many people get stuck at one or the other level.
There we have it – a positive mindset to create your home based internet marketing business is all about building and maintaining momentum through learning, questioning , actions and focus.

Mindset is hardly ever talked about.
When it is, it usually drifts into ideas about the “Secret”, wish-fulfillment, and even the supernatural, with a smattering of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).
Aren’t these various ways of trying to get to the right “mindset” – especially success “mindset” – at root about getting inspired about something?
Some people would say it’s about having “belief”. But can anyone simply take on or off belief as they please – like deciding what they’ll have for dinner? I think not.
Anyway, there seem to be different ways of finding inspiration.
Here are 3 examples.
Which one are you, if any?
